Iraq has been dubbed “the cradle of civilization” as it was home to the earliest known civilization. The Sumerian civilization was established along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, around the 6th millennium BC and gave birth to the world’s first writing system. The two rivers are depicted in the map above.
